Media H/W 3 Film Openings

The three film openings i chose to analyse are from Casino Royale, Catch Me if You Can and The Number 23.

Casino Royale:
  • Black And White shot clip of bond
  • Shot reverse shot of him and his victim in a shootout. when the camera is back on him, blood drips down-classic blond opening
  • Dramatic Bond music comes in after gunshot
  • Casino/Cards themed title card
  • Guns and fighting animations based around the cards eg. bullets replaced by spades
  • Title and credits in plain white text

Catch Me if You Can:

  • Black background
  • Company name "dream works" integrated into title sequence
  • Stick figure animations showing a pursuit
  • Text geometrically manipulates to fit in with animation sequence
  • Music starts off slow. As the pursuit goes on, the music gains tempo and gets slightly louder

The Number 23:

  • Black and White title card
  • red splats of blood on the "paper"
  • Company name integrated into the title sequence
  • Typewriter style title card- old paper as background and typrewriter font
  • no images
  • Refrences to the number 23 throughout history

In the opening sequence of "Casino Royale" the scene is black and white. After the classic bond shooting we see blood dripping down, which gives it a contrast. We see a similar effect in the title sequence of the film "The Number 23" were the backdrop is all black and white, but splats of blood are on the paper also giving it a contrast. In addition, in "The Number 23", the company name s integrated into the title sequence and cannot be distinguished from the rest of the credits. This is also apparent for the film "Catch Me if You Can". the company name geometrically manipulates to fit in with the animation. However, in "Casino Royale" the text is plain and white and does not give any specific meaning to the title card.
